Polyphony in community and popular education

The group Polyphony in Community and Popular Education is rooted in the meetings and reflections generated around the internal dynamics of the Bachelor’s Degree in Community Education, where – after the process of elaborating and approving the qualified registration of the program – we were able to identify the need to undertake a research process that allows updating the debates around Community Education, consolidating the theoretical-practical claims, giving strength to its epistemological status and configuring its academic and political field. Likewise, the group wants to make visible the path that this degree has taken, from which it has managed to concretize the pedagogical and investigative bets with which and from which it has been configured. It wants to identify the contributions and relationships with fields of education and pedagogy that have led to relevant methodological and didactic proposals for consolidating scenarios of democratic political culture, conflict resolution and building communities and cultures of peace.

Therefore, our research group proposes the development of reflective and pedagogical proposals around a general line of research that corresponds to the mission statements of the Bachelor’s Degree in Community Education, i.e. popular and community education and human rights. From the dynamics of the study groups and the ongoing research workshops, other lines of research have emerged. Thus, from the practical exercises in different institutions and social organizations, it has been possible to develop a series of research proposals. These lines are as follows:

  • Art, body, and memory
  • Education, territory, and conflict
  • School, community, and territory
  • Gender, identity, and collective actions
