Overview

Mission

The Faculty of Education has been structured according to the mission statements of the University–teaching, research, and social projection. The purposes are related to the organization of academic development, planning, promotion and permanent assessment of the programs and their teachers through coordination with the different academic units.

From these perspectives, firstly we want to contribute to the educational development of the country through a leadership directed to initial, permanent and advanced training processes of teachers and education professionals to transform the socio-cultural dynamics of our nation by their pedagogical and educational practices and a required reflection by them.

Secondly, promoting research within educational and pedagogical field and changes demanded by the country and society based on research projects focused on processes of training and social projection in Education, Pedagogy, and Didactics. On the other hand, we seek to project, strengthen and make visible the research lines related to academic spaces, educational practices, degree thesis and the construction and contribution to public policies.

Thirdly, the tie with the Teacher Training Colleges and inter-institutional advice has been recognized, especially with the Ministry of National Education (MEN for the original acronym in Spanish), the Secretariats of Education and the Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar to advance the initial and postgraduate training of teachers and education professionals in the country.

Visión

The Faculty of Education should be primarily recognized for a teacher training leadership of teachers and education professionals. Secondly, for strong collaborating groups involved in the annual calls of the Subdirectorate of Project Management (CIUP) and the national calls for recognizing and measuring research, technological development or innovation groups of the SNCTEI of Colciencias (now the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation) as well as to be involved in co-funded research projects.

Thirdly, the Faculty of Education should be widely recognized both nationally and internationally for its academic production, including books and articles. In particular, the Revista Pedagogía y Saberes is highly regarded as an essential reference for teachers, students, education professionals, and pedagogical researchers. Fourthly, the leadership to build public policy, especially regarding teachers training for different contexts of the Colombian territory.
